A sample spread from the Bushido rulebook from GCT studios. I was a graphic designer for this project editing and laying out much of the newest revision of the games core ruleset. I can only show examples of the spreads I developed and a few of the background pages due to IP protection.
The book went to print in 2021 as part of the newest edition release. I was responsible for editing and scaling creating the resized A5 version that was a part of the starter set, as well as the simplified home print version. I also developed a token set that went into the project, some examples are here but and I have a full project folder for them in this portfolio.
The printed A5 version that I rescaled as well as the printed token set that was released together in Bushido Risen Sun's starter set.
Below are some of the spreads that I was commissioned lay out.
The melee exchanges page took some time to condense into a 2 page spread while retaining the readability of the 15 step game play function.
The mission set up and deployment pages Keii, Seikyu and Idols all required the deployment graphic layouts redefined and colours resetting to be readable for people with red/blue colour blindness.
The final spread is a summary section created to condense as much useful gameplay information into as small a space as possible. This was received very well in user play testing and enhanced the fluidity of the game system.
